My interest in Android has risen again; I quite enjoy tech challenges & Android
has grabbed my attention on/off for a while now.
I’m wondering if the Moto G would be an excellent entry into the Android world,
however from my readings, I’m a bit concerned that the accessibility won’t meet
my desires for the device. For the most part, I want it to replace an iPod Touch.
Now, I’m not talking about android vs IOS, I only mean as a media player. I’ll
list my top plans, and hopefully you guys can give me feedback.
1. Chrome Cast. I love this little device and want to use it heavily with the Moto
G.
2. Music. I want to have a large music file including playlists and such. Ideally,
I want to stream this music via Chrome Cast.
3. Music apps. Including, but not limited to Pandora & Songza. 2 of my favorite
music services, again I want to Chrome Cast them.
4. Movies/TV apps. Netflix, Hulu+ etc. Chrome Casting them.
;) Do you see a theme here?
5. How about the browser Chrome, is it accessible? Performing searches,
reading results etc. I know I can cast chrome on my laptop, can I do this on
Android?
The following are less of a priority, but it would still be fun to explore them...
Facebook, twitter, rss feeds with the old reader, and podcasts.
Is K9 mail, the email app y’all recommend the most?
Lastly, another reason I’m drawn to Android, is I hear it is easier to share the
device. I really like the idea of 2 users/one device. Does this concept work well
with TalkBack?
My big picture plan is to have the Moto G be the shared entertainment device.
We can have our music library on it, we can cast all sorts of entertainment, etc.
And maybe down the road, we’ll get rid of our house landline & have the Moto G
as a spare phone. If I understand correctly, it’ll be a great phone to go
back/forth between USA & UK.
I feel like I’m forgetting something, but the above will do for now. I look
forward to y’all educating me further. As much as I’m dying to get my hands
playing with an android, if it won’t meet my media needs...*shrugs* Lol, I’ll be
bummed. :)
Thanks!
Pandora is quite accessible, songzza I am not sure I have never used it. The google play music app works great and it sit as a wiget on my home screen so I can skip tracks quickly. Using chrom cast works well once you find the casting button and you can do this with no sighted help. A lot of us use firefox because its got the greatest accessibility currently on android as fare as a browser is consurned. You can even side load flash player and it works well. If you get this phone ask me how to side load flash and I wil help you. FB works fine but some use friendcaster because its less cluttered with adds. I have gone back to the main facebook app because its gotten much better. You can now even do FB caht with your friends and call them as well like you can on IOS. If you want more info quick note me, if you get this devices and want suggestions for apps, just read my android app board.
Thank you, this is positive news.
So I am able to play music with no problems? Play/pause, playlists/smart
playlists, and cast it all?
How about Netflix & Hulu+?
Also, can you have 2 users on one device? I'll be the only one using
accessibility.
Off to check out your android app board.
yes and yes, I would check out that android show as well not just my boards.
Have you considered a nexus 7 tablet as a way to get started with Android? While I find the larger touch screen a bit more dificult to use if sited people will be charing this device it may be worth it for them. You can get a refurbished first gen Nexus 7 for $119 at Walmart, see following link.

If you want to buy the moto g for use in the US and UK you should buy directly from google play, and it will cost you $199. If you intend on using T-Mobile as your primary carrior in the united states you will want the U.S. version. This version will still work in the UK, for phone calls and texting but you will have really slow to nonexistent data in the U.K. If you want to use ATT as your carrior just buy the international version.
